First devlog. A month well spent.

Hi!

Here’s our first longer devlog, since a lot happened last month it's going to be a very general update! We’ve gone from having a barely functioning demo to a fully functioning demo build (minus the bugs found during playtesting).

In summary:

  • Steam game page.
  • Rumsklang finished the music for the first demo build.
  • Successfully implemented WWISE into Gamemaker Studio 2.
  • Finished first demo build.
  • Released the first Demo for playtesters.
  • First dedicated article.
  • Itch.io game page.
  • First devlog (This one!).

First thing first. We got a Steam page! Meaning people can finally ad Vessels od Decay to their wishlist on Steam! It would mean a great deal for us if you wishlisted Vessels of Decay,  as this helps spread the word about our game :) Thank you!

MUSIC

Rumsklang has made some amazing work on sound design. Spanning from ambiance, world music, battle music, boss music, and SFX. Some of the soundtracks can be heard on our main Gamejolt page for those interested.

WWISE

We’ve also made the jump from Gamemaker’s built-in sound system, to WWISE. This required some engine programming which could only be explained by our amazing audio dev Carl (Separate devlog on this to be expected). This has opened up some new possibilities which and have streamlined the development as it enables our sound guys to do advanced sound programming directly from their end. This really makes a huge difference!

DEMO

We finished our first demo build! This was a huge step for us, and it’s been super fun to see people play our game! We’ve received some good feedback and are looking forwards to the coming rounds of playtesting.  Join our Discord if you too are interested in joining the community and trying out the demo!

GAMEPLAY

We've also made some progress on gameplay, making movement and combat feel smoother than ever. This is one aspect that I'm particularly proud of, as I’ve spent A LOT of time on getting the timing and animations to feel just right. And frankly, to just make everything fit together. We got some great feedback on this on our first playtests, and we got some pointers on where we could do some improvements to make it all feel even better.

FIRST ARTICLE

We got our first dedicated article about Vessels of Decay over at Alpha Beta Gamer! This was really nice to be able to read something about VoD which had not been written by us! Thanks to all the people over at Alpha Beta Gamer! You can check it out here.

That's about it. See you in the next one!

Simon
